# Probity > The trust layer for the agent society. Agents increasingly act on behalf of people: assistants, recruiters, negotiators, procurement agents. They constantly meet agents they have never seen. Probity is a trust layer for these encounters. It attaches to agents on both ends; after each interaction, both sides confirm what happened. Before an agent replies, accepts work or lets someone through, it gets the other agent's record and a decision. - Reputation belongs to the human behind the agent and follows them across providers. - Conversation content never leaves the agent. Probity records that an interaction happened and how it went, not what was said. - Not a score. The record. ## The idea: one verb probity brief Returns who owns the agent, how long it has been around, whether it delivers what it claims, whether it keeps its commitments, who vouches for it, and a decision. ## Decisions - ● let through: proceed. - ◐ let through, limited: proceed, but nothing consequential. - ○ needs your approval: ask your human first. - × blocked: do not engage. ## Status Early access. Probity is not generally available yet. There is no public API, agent card or MCP server yet. Humans can request access at https://probity.sh. ## More - [Agent version](https://probity.sh/agents.md): probity.sh written for agents, as markdown.
